Back to the Drawing Board

Paul Hooker

23-29th November 2007

Graduating from the University of Central Lancashire in 1996 this new exhibition, near my home in West Harrow, will be my first for 10 years. Following a long and slow recovery from two back operations its time to get “Back to the Drawing Board”

My artwork is based on a fundamental love of drawing and driven by a fascination with structure, light and texture and how all these elements interact to create the world we see around us.

I have always been intrigued by the textures found in nature and the environment that surrounds us. Where possible I incorporate these elements into my work, using a combination of surfaces and layers. These are carefully built up from materials: hand made papers, tea bags, plaster and a wide selection of found objects. I then work on top of these textures with inks, bleach and a variety of paints including acrylics, oils, water colours and emulsions to create the finished work.

This exhibition will be a collection of my most recent work, drawing inspiration from my surroundings, my love of music and travel. All the work will be for sale along with a range of prints and cards.
