I was born and educated in England before moving to Johannesburg, South Africa in my late teens. Initially I trained in the Graphic Arts and then went on to a working life in advertising and photography.

On returning to Britain in 1978, I worked for the photographic department of the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. I came to Bristol in 1989 and was in a position at last, to give all my time to the study and practice of Fine Art.

SOME FACTS ABOUT MY WORK

The mainspring of my work is the expression of my feelings about my experience of the world.

When I work with paint, colour and the graphic mark are my means of expression.

Feelings create a mood and colour and line are prime expressive tools for this.

Colour, with its endless juxtapositions, re-creates the mood of my feelings about the experience and the actuality of the world about me.

Line and mark weave through and around the colour, connecting and dividing the areas, and give a sense of passing time.

I work in the abstract and the semi-abstract with figurative elements used to express my meaning.

I never work directly from subject, but evoke my responses to the subject in the studio where I hope to recreate the mood and atmosphere that are important to me in my work.
